Minority students continue to be disproportionately represented in disciplinary data found by the Beloit School District.
African American students make up 23 percent of the district’s student population as of last school year, but they accounted for 44 percent of all disciplinary referrals.
Executive Director of Pupil Services Emily Pelz presented the latest numbers at Tuesday night’s school board meeting, noting that administrative hearings and interventions have decreased overall.
Pelz said the district is working with teachers to develop culturally responsive practices and recognize personal biases.
