Senator Janis Ringhand frustrated with Wisconsin’s ‘lame duck’ legislation from Republican lawmakers

15th District Senator Janis Ringhand shares her democratic colleague’s frustration with the bills passed by Wisconsin’s lame duck legislature early Wednesday morning.
She told WCLO these lame duck sessions are typically used to clean up lingering discrepancies before the end of a term, rather than limiting the powers of the incoming administration.
Ringhand called the set of bills a “power grab” by Republican lawmakers, and she says many of them are likely to be shot down in the court system.
Democrats are taking one positive away from the legislative session, though, after successfully voting down a bill that would have guaranteed insurance for Wisconsin citizens with pre-existing conditions.
Ringhand said this bill did not protect citizens from significant premiums and out-of-pocket costs. She insisted Democrats are in no way against coverage for pre-existing conditions.
