The 35-year-old former Janesville man who had more than a dozen sickly puppies seized from his rural Rock County residence more than two years ago is sentenced to a year of probation.
As part of a plea agreement, Chad Mukina of Rothschild plead guilty to a charge of misdemeanor party to the crime of selling animals without a license and a charge of party to the crime of mistreating animals was dismissed.
Prosecutor Rich Sullivan also asked that Mukina also pay more than $5000 in restitution to families who bought dogs from him.
In July of 2016 the Rock County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a property occupied by Mukina and his girlfriend Felicia Tousey. More than a dozen dogs were found in unsanitary conditions and suffering from medical issues that proper veterinary care would have prevented.
Tousey plead guilty to a count of intentionally mistreating animals and was also sentenced to a year of probation. After Tousey was caught violating her probation by selling cats her probation was revoked and she was given six months in jail.
