The School District of Milton is pleased to announce a new early learning program designed to help promote and support reading in young children. The program intends to emphasize a wide variety of early learning opportunities designed to develop the skill sets of students up to four years of age long before they even set foot within a school.
The new early learning program is being funded through a generous donation from the Milton Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) Shining Star program. The $700 donation will be used to purchase books and other early learning materials and provide them to district households with preschool students.
Staff members of the School District of Milton are partnering with the Milton Library to create opportunities for parents of young children to network with other parents around topics that support early learning. District team members include representatives with expertise in developmental milestones, speech and language development, behavior management, early learning and early math skills. A survey was sent out to families who had a child or children up to four years of age to determine specific topics they were interested in learning more about.
Associate Principal Julie Musgrove commented on the new program by stating, “We are very excited to get this new program started. Reading to children at a young age is so very important. We are grateful for the donation from MACC’s Shining Star program that provides us with the resources necessary to launch this new program. The first two early learning events are scheduled for January 10 and January 16, 2019.
