Wednesday members of the Beloit Police Department’s Tactical Operation Unit and Crisis Negotiation Team will be doing joint training in the city.
Beloit Police say these two teams work jointly on all “call-outs,” and it is important to keep both teams working smoothly together.
The role of TOU and CNT is to try to peacefully resolve calls involving suspects who have committed or are threatening to commit violent offenses. At times these officers may be called out to deal with people who are in mental crisis as well, and we rely on the CNT to try to talk to suspects and have them calmed down so that they can either be taken into custody, or be turned over to mental health professionals.
