The School District of Janesville has updated enrollment data following the ‘Second Friday in January’ student count date. The following chart compares the January 2018 and January 2019 second Friday student counts, as well as enrollment changes from the September 2018 third Friday student count to the January 2019 second Friday student count.
In total, the pupil count for the second Friday in January 2019 is 9,969 students. Noted is a difference of 80 students from the pupil count in September of 2018. Student enrollment counts have consistently shown a reduction between the September and January count dates. The last five years of data reflect a reduction of 29 students in 2017-18, 70 students in 2016-17, 47 students in 2015-16, 69 students in 2014-15, and 52 students in 2013-14. These numbers are the net result of students moving in and out of the district, mid-year graduates, and students dropping out or aging out of high school.
Early childhood had a net gain of 15 students from September to January. Students are identified for early childhood through monthly developmental screenings held by the school district and through referrals from the CESA 2 Birth to Three Program. P4J enrollment dropped slightly by 5 students since September 2018, yet the year-to-year increase of 70 students remains the largest annual increase in P4J enrollment the School District of Janesville has seen since the program began in the 2009-10 school year.
