Complaint: Friend keeps Beloit man from committing suicide by arson

A Beloit man is charged with attempted arson after pouring gasoline throughout his residence before changing his mind and calling the police on himself.
According to the criminal complaint, 39-year-old Christopher J. Stitt was going to set himself and the house on fire on February 3rd because he was suicidal.
He told police he decided not to go through with it because he didn’t want to leave his children without a father.
The complaint says Stitt had been in a domestic dispute earlier that night with his girlfriend, who feared for her safety.
Police say a friend helped him calm down and seek help.
Stitt faces charges of attempted arson, disorderly conduct in domestic abuse and bail jumping.
