A serial con artist appears to be hitting businesses in the surrounding counties.

Green County Chief Deputy Tom Moczynski  says a white male in his 30s or 40s has convinced employees at businesses to give him $150 from the company as a loan, claiming to know the owner.

Small businesses in the service industry are typically the targets of the con.

Moczynski says they haven’t received any reports of physical acts or threats of violence from the suspect, but he suggests businesses owners should notify employees for their safety.

Authorities in Lafayette and Dane counties, along with northern Illinois are also investigating reports of the same type of scam.

Anyone with information about the incidents is encouraged to contact the Green County Sheriff’s Office.
