Beloit police hold a press conference with more information on the Saturday homicide of a Janesville man.
Captain Thomas Stigler said 28-year-old James M. Tomten was shot and killed in his tan Cadillac Escalade at around 12:20 p.m. Saturday.
Police weren’t dispatched until a report came in over two hours later, and Tomten was found dead in the vehicle.
During the press conference, Stigler revealed police identified a person of interest who was seen on surveillance video with the victim earlier in the day at a Beloit business.
Police believe the shooter and the victim were acquainted, and the shooting took place from inside the vehicle.
Stigler says there is no ongoing danger to the public despite no suspect in custody.
