A 53-year-old Janesville man is dead following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in the town of Rock.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to the crash on South County Highway G near East Sunny Lane shortly after 8:00 a.m.

The investigation shows a 2000 GMC Sierra C1500, driven by a 62 year old Beloit man, was traveling northbound on S. County Highway G when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the slippery roads as it crossed a bridge. The GMC Sierra slid into the southbound lane and struck a southbound 2013 Kia Rio driven by a 53 year old Janesville man nearly head on. The GMC Sierra came to rest in the roadway blocking both lanes of traffic and the Kia Rio came to rest in the northbound ditch facing northeast.

The 53 year old male was extricated and taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville where he was pronounced deceased at 9:12 hours. The 62 year old male was taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition. Both drivers had been wearing seatbelts at the time of crash.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to investigate and reconstruct the crash, which remains under investigation at this time. S. County Highway G was closed for nearly four hours as a result and reopened at noon.
