A Beloit sexual assault case sounds like it’s straight out of a Netflix series.

Police matched the DNA of 44-year-old Joseph H. Ostrowski to a violent sexual assault cold case from 2003 in Beloit, after he was arrested in Las Vegas in 2017.

Ostrowski’s attorney Jason Sanders says his client suffered a largely untreated traumatic brain injury from a massive heat stroke in 2015 and has severe memory loss.

Sanders has 150 pages of medical record to back up the claim and says Ostrowski didn’t even recognize his own sister when she came to visit him in jail.

Ostrowski had his plea hearing Thursday and gave an Alford plea, which means he believes he’s innocent but accepts that the court has evidence to prove his guilt.

His sentencing date is scheduled for May 23rd.
