With Governor Tony Evers announcing his proposal to legalize medical marijuana, one local official sees support for the issue in the area.
County Board member Yuri Rashkin proposed the marijuana referendum on last November’s ballot in Rock County, which was one of 16 counties to overwhelmingly vote in support of legalization.
Over 69 percent of voters in Rock County said they would support legalization, and he feels the referendum helped educate state lawmakers on the public opinion.
Rashkin says the referendum vote was not split by political party, and he’s disappointed to see it becoming a partisan issue in the state legislature.
Republican Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said in a statement that Evers proposals “appear to go too far.”
