Saunders Creek in Edgerton is a problem for the city’s public works department when rain falls during the spring snow melt.
City Administrator Ramona Flanigan says the city has been trying to stay ahead of their water collection system being able to handle larger rainfalls.
The city’s public works department had to shut down a portion of Highway 51 because of rising water levels in Saunders Creek.
Flanigan says the frost in the ground allows for all the melted snow to flow down into the stream and bring the water level higher than the banks.
The water threatened Central Lutheran Church but volunteers were able to get sandbags in place.
The city is concerned about continued rainfall causing more issues.
