TA Janesville Travel Center seeking city approval for significant expansion

The owner of the Janesville Travel Center on Highway 14 is seeking city approval for some significant expansions to his business.
City Senior Planner Brian Schweigl says the TA is looking to add a second story for truckers and expand their food offering with a Jersey Mike’s Subs and a Krispy Krunchy Chicken in addition to the Wendy’s in the building.
The second floor includes a space for a “meeting room/chapel.” The proposed expansions also feature additional semi-truck parking and improved facilities.
Schweigl says the project would also include a land exchange with the city from the adjacent section of the greenbelt.
The owner of the TA Janesville Travel Center would give up more land to the greenbelt than he’s receiving, and he would also commit to making improvements to that stretch of the conservation land.
The Janesville Plan Commission will vote on the proposed amendment to the conditional use permit during their meeting on Monday, and the full city council will have to vote on the greenbelt land exchange at a future meeting.
