A Janesville police officer tried to stop a vehicle around 3:35 a.m. at North Franklin Street and Centerway for an equipment violation. The driver sped away and crashed into a group of trees at Franklin Street and Mineral Point Avenue.
The driver, 50-year-old Reginald T. Cole of Janesville, fled on foot and was arrested in the 400 block of North Jackson Street.
Cole was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries from the crash. He was eventually arrested on tentative charges of fleeing an officer, first-offense operating while intoxicated, obstructing and possession of drug paraphernalia.
