Five transported to the hospital following school bus crash in town of Beloit

Four Beloit Turner School District students are transported to the hospital following a school bus crash Thursday morning.

The Town of Beloit Fire Department says first responders were dispatched to the single-vehicle crash in the parking lot of the police station shortly before 7:00 a.m.

Fire Chief Gene Wright says the bus left the the roadway, went across a lane of traffic, hit a tree and a fire hydrant and came to rest in the parking lot of the police station.

According to an email sent to families from the school district there were 12 middle and high school students on the bus at the time of the crash.

Four students and the driver were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The email from the school district says initial investigation indicates the the bus driver had a medical emergency and lost consciousness.

The Town of Beloit Police Department declined to comment.
