The Janesville Plan Commission considers adding a historic overlay designation to the Oak Hill Chapel property.
Senior Planner Brian Schweigl says it means that any changes to the exterior of the building would have to be approved by the historic commission.
Schweigl says the Friends of the Oak Hill Chapel asked city officials to explore ways of preserving the structure after volunteers spent nearly five years restoring it.
The Plan Commission will hold a public hearing before considering approval of the historic overlay when they meet at 6:00 Monday evening.
