City of Beloit receives 6 proposals for redevelopment of former Angel Museum

The City of Beloit’s request for proposals to redevelop to former Angel Museum site generates a lot of interest.
According to documents WCLO obtained through an open records request, the City of Beloit received six proposals ranging from office space to a restaurant.
Hendricks Commercial Properties submitted a proposal that doesn’t even address the 105-year-old structure that was originally constructed as St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Hendricks would like to construct 13 new row house style residential units on either side of the existing church. According to the proposal submitted to the City the plans for current building will formulate over time.
The owners of the Castle at 501 Prospect and the Youth Unite would like to re-locate their art school for bullied youth to the building but have also pledged to allow other non-profits to use the space as well.
Southern Wisconsin AirFEST Founder Thomas Morgan submitted an idea for a new restaurant called Holy Smokes which would feature smoked meats, quality cheeses, and local craft beers.
The W.B Kennedy Freemason Lodge would like to use the building for their permanent home, allowing their fraternal order to grow and attract new members.
A proposal from Visit Beloit would have the tourism marketing organization moving out of their temporary home at the Eclipse Center and back downtown.
Forward Construction Group’s idea for the building includes remodeling the interior into office space and a rental hall.
According to an email from Beloit City Manager Lori Curtis Luther, city officials are still reviewing their options and are not ready to bring a recommendation forward.
