Beloit School Board exploring policy changes to increase transparency

The Beloit School Board is considering policy changes to promote transparency.
Board Clerk Kyle Larsen proposed adding a second regular business meeting to their calendar on the second Tuesday of the month in addition to their meeting on the fourth Tuesdays.
The board holds special board meetings on most of the second Tuesdays as is, so Larsen said making them regular meetings would open them up for live streaming and more public comment.
“Really, we meet on the second Tuesday, and unless you come sit here in the room, you have no idea what was really discussed about at that meeting,” Larsen said at Tuesday night’s special board meeting. “So I want to overcome that.”
Board members expressed support for the change, but they had questions about staffing costs and the logistical issues of staff preparing for another full meeting each month.
Larsen also introduced the possibility of streaming their meetings on Facebook Live, but they tabled the discussion until they hire a Chief of Communications in their new organizational chart.
