Newly renovated T. J. Cairins & Brother Building at 219 West Milwaukee St in Janesville has a new children’s clothing boutique.
Owners Paul and Tom Murphy of Murphy Brothers LLP have signed a lease with Jess Van Horn, owner and operator of Classy Rascals Children’s Boutique.
Murphy Brothers purchased the building on June 28, 2018 and renovated one of two apartments and the 1400 square foot commercial/retail store front.
The circa 1865 two (2) story building was originally occupied by the T. J. Cairins & Brother Dry Good and Millinery Store.
During the recent renovation project, Murphy Brothers restored the original Yellow Birch wood floor, uncovered the original tile entrance floor, preserved the original “fluted” ceiling and uncovered the “prismed” glass facade.
Murphy Brothers upgraded mechanicals, lighting and structural items throughout the first floor.
Murphy Brothers stated “we have 1865 character with updated 2018 mechanicals.
Both brothers’ office in the downtown and have watched the 200 West Corridor transform over the last 9 years especially with retail store’s Hometown Pharmacy, Home Again, Velvet and Tulle and Jacqueline King Designs.
They focused on getting the retail space “turnkey” ready for entrepreneur’s like Van Horn who could move in and be generating revenue in less than 30 days.
“We were patient and looking for a tenant who would complement the retail area already in operation.”
Through the time spent during renovation Murphy’s watched the retail traffic that current retailers are generating in this corridor of downtown increase greatly.
