A 14-year-old girl is dead after her canoe tipped over in the Yahara River near Murwin Park in Fulton.
According to a news release, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office conducted a water rescue Saturday afternoon and successfully rescued seven people out of the water.
The girl was taken to a local hospital and later succumbed to her injuries.
Four canoes were overturned in the water, according to the release, and the girl was pinned under a submerged log before being extracted.
The sheriff’s office is cautioning the public against canoeing or kayaking on the Yahara River, Badfish Creek, Turtle Creek and Suger River while the waters are high and the currents are fast.
