The Rock County Medical Examiner’s Office releases the name of the victim in Saturday afternoon’s canoeing accident in the Yahara River.
14-year-old Grace V.A. Gordon was trapped under a submerged log and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The preliminary results of the autopsy show the cause of death as accidental drowning.
First responders found four overturned canoes with several people clinging to logs and yelling for help in the river near Murwin Park in Fulton.
They were able to rescue seven people from the swift current and high waters.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is cautioning the public against canoeing or kayaking on the Yahara River, Badfish Creek, Turtle Creek and Suger River in these conditions.
