The landscaping business could be picking up soon in Janesville.

The city council voted Tuesday night to change their ordinances on landscaping and gardening.

City Environmental Technician Matt Robinson says the amendment eliminates the size constraints for naturally landscaped areas allowed.

Previously, only 10 percent of a gross lot area was allowed to be landscaped, but the ordinance now has no size restriction so long as it’s clearly managed with definable edges.

As part of the amendment, the council also voted to allow residents to plant gardens in their front setbacks. They were previously restricted to back or side yards.

Some residents had said they were unable to grow plants in their backyards due to design constraints of their lots.
