Three students are injured during a four-vehicle accident involving a school bus in Monroe.
Monroe Police say officers were dispatched to the intersection of State Highway 69 and 8th Street on the west side shortly before 4:00 Tuesday afternoon.
Investigation determined that a van driven by 55-year-old Monico Garcia-Mendez of Monroe was traveling south on 69 when she attempted to turn left onto 8th and crossed directly into the path of a northbound school bus.
The school bus carrying 26 elementary through high school age children struck Garcia-Mendez’s vehicle and propelled it into two other vehicles operated by Monroe residents.
Three children received minor injuries and were treated at a local clinic.
Garcia-Mendez, who also received minor injuries, was cited for failure to yield the right of way and having no valid driver’s license.
