Governor Tony Evers chooses the parking lot of Hometown Pharmacy on South Jackson Street in Janesville to sign legislation giving more power to patients in controlling their own health care.
The new law reduces the impact of “step” therapy, where a patient must try-and-fail on insurer chosen drugs before doctor prescribed medications.
Evers chose Janesville in part because, as he put it, the tireless advocacy from State Representative Deb Kolste.
Mercyhealth System Primary Care Resident Shelby Nykeil was among the medical professionals in attendance, and she believes the new law offers more autonomy between the patient and their doctor.
The governor also signed another bill intended to streamline the process for in-home dialysis patients.
