A reported drive-by shooting turns out to be a lie covering up an accidental shooting of a Beloit man.
According to the criminal complaint, 19-year-old Diamond J. Rucks of Beloit called 911 on July 5 after 20-year-old Nikolai Wasilewski was shot in the leg.
Rucks and Wasilewski both told police they saw a blue car drive by at the time of the gun shot.
In the complaint, police said they heard conflicting stories from witnesses about what happened in the incident.
Another witness later told police Rucks had a gun earlier that day and accidentally shot Wasileski in the leg while they were “standing in the living room jumping around.”
Rucks is charged with 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety, injury by negligent handing of a dangerous weapon and obstructing an officer.
Wasileski was previously convicted of Homicide by Negligent Handling of Dangerous Weapon in 2016.
