All residents in a 12-unit Janesville apartment complex are displaced after a fire that leaves the building a total loss.

The afternoon blaze at 2826 Holiday Drive was reported by a resident just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday. No residents were injured, although a firefighter was taken to a hospital with a hand laceration.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, but it started in the external rear of the building’s west side.

Part of the roof on the west side of the two-story building caved in. Other areas were heavily charred.

The Janesville Fire department says only four units had fire damage, but the rest had smoke and water damage.

The Red Cross says it is assisting about 20 people who live in the building.
