A woman in Janesville needs a new car after she tried to free a turtle into the Rock River.
Missy Long says she was just trying to be a good Samaritan when she stopped at the boat launch near Afton Road to release the reptile that had been in her house.
Long says she didn’t put her Chevy Equinox in park, and it rolled into the river.
No one was in the car when it mostly submerged near the north shore of the Rock River upstream from the Bellrichard Bridge.
Authorities cut through some trees and worked with a towing company to pull the vehicle from the river.
The condition of the turtle is unknown.
