Rock County board considers committee term limits

Rock County Board members appear very loyal to their committee assignments. The board Thursday night voted overwhelming against a proposal by supervisor Yuri Rashkin to implement term limits for board members on standing committees.   Rashkin suggested supervisors serve no more than two consecutive two-year terms before taking at least one year off. Other supervisors argued it takes time to get a full understanding of what a committees considers, and experience offers expertise in dealing with the issues. Board Chairman Russ Podzilni added how close to a third of supervisory seats change hands every two years anyway, so turnover occurs regardless of limits. Rashkin reminded the board, supervisors are elected officials and not hired as experts. The vote was 19-to-four against.
