Four displaced from residential fire in Janesville

A Janesville woman escapes her burning home without injury after a passerby sees smoke coming from a dryer vent and alerted the woman her basement was on fire.
The Janesville Fire Department says firefighters were called to a one-story home at 2200 block of Rutledge Avenue just before 9:30 Tuesday morning.
The woman who lives in the home was able to get her pets, three dogs and one cat, and get out of the house unharmed.
Firefighters arrived to see smoke coming from all four sides of the house.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was contained to the basement and likely started in or around the dryer. The fire caused about $35,000 in damage to the house.
Four adults who live at the residence are temporarily displaced. The Red Cross is assisting them.
