Beloit man will spend life in mental institution for 2018 homicide

The 21-year-old Beloit man accused in a 2018 homicide who was found not competent to stand trail last December, pleads guilty to the charge against him and is committed to a mental institution for life.

According to online court records Ezequiel C. Acosta plead guilty to first degree homicide by use of a dangerous weapon on September 26th. Judge John Wood found him guilty but not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and ordered him to be committed for life.

Acosta shot 49-year-old Jose Carrera Reyes of Beloit to death at a home on the 1700 block of Harrison Avenue on Thanksgiving eve in 2018.

A hearing is scheduled for November 4th at 3:00 p.m. to give the victim’s wife an opportunity to address the court.
