Many Janesville residents may be flushing tax dollars down the drain without realizing it. City Utilities Director Dave Botts says wet wipes described as flushable, and other non-biodegradable items, are really gumming up the waste water system. Botts says the impacts of non-flushable products can cause large breaks in sewer mains or even backup sewer pipes in homes. Botts says repair costs due to blockages caused by such items has reached $100 thousand. He’s imploring residents to stop flushing items like “wet wipes”, wrappers, and kitty litter down the toilet.
