A local municipality is looking to catch up with the rest of the county on an issue of public safety.

The Town of Beloit is the last town in Rock County to go through the updating of rural address signs.

The old signs they have run parallel to the street and are fading, which makes it difficult for emergency personnel to read.

Community Development Director Tim Kienbaum says they were putting off updating the signs while the town considered incorporating, which would have changed the name of the municipality and required new signage anyway.

After the township decided to suspend its incorporation bid, Kienbaum said the county reached out to see if they would be interested in updating.

The Town Board will hold a public hearing and vote Monday on the approval of new signs, which would be assessed to the individual homeowners.
