Local legislator pushes for more minority teachers

A local legislator is pushing to get more minority teachers in the classroom. Assembly Representative Amy Loudenbeck of Clinton says statistics show minority teachers make a difference. She says a minority teacher’s presence in the classroom does not negatively affect non-minority students, but is proven to reduce the achievement gap. Her bill, up for a vote Tuesday in the State Senate, would offer college loan forgiveness to minority teachers who agree to work in districts where minority students constitute at least 40-percent of the population. Beloit and Delavan-Darien would qualify as district under the proposal.
