The proposed city owned indoor sports complex for the Janesville Mall is getting the once-over from a New York expert in the economics of place-making. James Lima (LEE-mah) told a public meeting at city hall (Monday) night, Janesville is doing a lot of the right things. Lima was extremely complimentary of city led redevelopment efforts in the downtown and along the riverfront. He says a complex at the mall would likely be a big attraction and inspire a significant economic impact. He says such amenities reach further than simply attracting visitors, but also nurture residential growth and foster industrial interest. Lima says he’ll spend a couple days reviewing the proposal and then prepare a report with recommendations on ways to proceed.
