Enrollment numbers down in Janesville schools

Class sizes are waning in the Janesville School District. Director of Pupil Services Kim Peerenboom says the trend has been going on for years and shows no signs of stopping. She says fewer children are being born. The Third Friday in September Enrollment count indicates 823 students in this year’s senior class. The enrollment steadily diminishes for every age group down into the elementary grades where fewer than 700 students are in each class. Open enrollment gains are increasing however. Peerenboom says 201 more students wanted into the district this year than out. This year’s enrollment is down 172 students from last year for a total of 9,889,
