Any haze gathering around the West Riverside Energy Center, under construction on Walters Road in the town of Beloit, is not toxic according to company officials. Alliant Spokesman Scott Reigstad says operators fired the Unit One Combustion Turbine for the first time Tuesday and some steam and non-toxic oil escaped. Reigstad says local police and fire were notified ahead of time, but the cloud was very noticeable to local residents. He says more testing is expected over the next three weeks. The West Riverside Energy Center should be on line early next year.
