With phone scammers becoming more technologically savvy, even a caller I-D, looking like it came from the police department, may be suspect. Beloit Police Lieutenant Andre Sayles says a woman recently fell prey to a call where someone posing as a law enforcement officer threatened arrest unless she send cash. Luckily the authorities were alerted before the money transfer could go though. Sayles says typically law enforcement does not call ahead about an arrest warrant and demand cash. He says anyone getting such a call should feel free to contact the Rock County Dispatch non-emergency phone number to verify any police call’s authenticity. Other area police departments have reported similar scams using their phone numbers as well.
