A local State Senator wants to expand Wisconsin’s current Family Medical Leave law to better benefit low income employees of smaller companies. Democrat Janis Ringhand of Evansville has introduced a plan where employees voluntarily contribute a certain percentage of their pay into a trust fund. The Family Medical Leave Insurance Act would allow up to 12 weeks of paid leave to care for a new child, treat a personal illness, or care for a sick or aging family member. This is the third time the proposal has been introduced by Democrats. It has failed to gain bipartisan support in the past.
