Prosecution willing to talk plea deal while Collazo jury deliberates

While a Rock County jury was busy deliberating the fate of a Janesville homicide suspect Wednesday night the prosecution was apparently still hoping to strike a plea deal in the case.
Outside of the presence of the jury Thursday morning Rock County District Attorney David O’Leary told the court that Wednesday night he approached 22-year-old Julian Collazo’s defense attorney Jeff Jensen and asked if he wanted to talk about a plea agreement.
Jensen told Judge Barbara McCrory that he discussed the idea with the Collazo and it was rejected.
Collazo told Judge McCrory that he would reject any deal that didn’t involve him walking free.
Collazo is accused of stabbing 43-year-old Christine Scaccia-Lubeck of Janesville to death in December of 2017.
After three days of testimony, the jury begin deliberating Wednesday afternoon before breaking around 7:30 p.m. They returned to deliberating around 11:00 Thursday morning.
