New program addresses homelessness

A local non-profit is helping tackle the area’s homeless population. ECHO Associate Director Jessica Locher says the idea for a Transitional Living Program came out of a city of Janesville led focus group. ECHO obtained the home at 655 Freemont Street in Jansville through a tax foreclosure, and along with grant money was able to renovate the property. She says the home will offer an environment to teach families about budgeting, maintenance, and goal setting. Locher says ECHO hopes to add more such homes if this project is successful. An open house for the program is planned Monday, November 11th from 4:00 til 6:00 p.m.
