E-book check-out delays predicted at library

Local librarians may be a little agitated at some of the big publishers who are limiting their access to e-books. Arrowhead Library System Public Information Coordinator Tovah Anderson says publishers like Macmillan are putting an embargo on new releases. The move would limit library purchases for the first eight weeks after release dates. After the embargo period, libraries would be able to provide full access to the titles, but at increased prices. Anderson says the popularity of e-books and e-audio books are growing, and now represent almost 15 % of the library’s circulation. The American Library Association has a petition available to tell Macmillan of any disagreement with the policy.
