A fire at a corn drying facility in the town of Albion smolders for four days after the original fire department response. Edgerton Fire Protection District Chief Randall Pickering says the first call to 495 County Highway X came in just before 10:00 o’clock Friday night. Firefighters were scheduled to return Monday noon to help the owner excavate the remaining corn in the bin. Pickering suspects the heat was able to melt through electrical insulation and start a fire in the adjoining control room. Pickering estimates damage close to $100-thousand dollars, including the control room, a drying bin, and about 12-thousand bushels of corn. No one was hurt.
