A Janesville teen accused of sexually assaulting a young boy will undergo a competency hearing in Rock County Court.
19-year-old Dakota Potts was originally scheduled to plea Thursday to his charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child under 13, but his attorney Walter Issacson revealed Potts has Autism, and the state would like to evaluate him further.
Potts is accused of sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy in the bathroom at Monterrey Stadium in Janesville in the summer of 2018.
The Class B felony carries a maximum penalty of 60 years in prison.
Judge Barbara McCrory agreed to order the competency evaluation to make sure Potts is able to fully understand the court proceedings and any plea he might make.
He remains in custody on a $5,000 cash bond.
The case is set for the competency hearing on December 8 at 9:00 a.m.
