Notorious sexual assault case headed for trial

A 41-year-old Beloit man, already serving 50-years for two violent sexual assaults, appears ready to take a third case to trial. Assistant Attorney General Amber Hahn told Rock County Judge Karl Hanson Thursday, Jason A. Smith’s case has not been resolved. Smith is accused of attacking a 13-year-old girl at gun point in a Beloit alleyway in July of 2000. Smith was convicted almost 14-years ago of attacking two girls, age 14 and 18, back in 2000 as well. His trial date is set for November 11th. The most recent case came to light because of the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative matching old cases through DNA.
