The Rock County District Attorney’s Office may have its second murder trial in as many months. Assistant District Attorney Gerald Urbik says he’s ready to present evidence of motive in the case against 38-year-old Jacob M Davenport of Beloit, in the February shooting death of 28-year-old James Tomten of Janesville. Urbik told a Rock County Judge Thursday the defendant was a drug addict who owed money to the victim. Court records indicate Davenport left the state after the killing, but was captured by U.S. marshals in Texas. He’s currently being held on a 250-thousand dollar cash bond. A November 11th trial is being planned. Rock County’s most recent murder trial, in the case against 22-year-old Julian Collazo in the death of 43-year-old Christine Scaccia-Lubeck of Janesville, ended last month in a hung jury.
