A small group of warm hearted people gather by the wind chilled Rock River to build awareness of the area’s homeless population. Tuesday night’s vigil under the J.P. Cullen Pavilion at Town Square in Janesville was intended to build awareness about the problem. Tammy DeGarmo with the Rock County Homeless Intervention Task Force says close to 400 local people are without adequate shelter. She says long waiting lists exist for area shelters already at capacity. A young man named Caleb knows all to well what it means to be homeless. Caleb’s experience at 18-years-of-age prompted him to join the vigil. He says anyone can find themselves impoverished, and it doesn’t make you a bad person. He says what’s important is for people to simply be decent human beings and help others who may not have as much.
