Prosecutors find themselves in an uphill battle with a witness in a Rock County murder case. Prosecutors wanted to show the jury 38-year-old Jacob M. Davenport of Beloit, confessed the crime to a friend. Assistant District Attorney Alex Goulart grilled Jason Masoner on the stand Tuesday about statements he made to police shortly after the shooting death of 28-year-old James M. Tomten in February. On the stand Masoner repeatedly told prosecutors he remembered nothing. Prosecutors were forced to play a recording of Masoner’s conversation with investigators, where he had been very chatty about what Davenport allegedly told him. The case resumes Wednesday.
