The School District of Janesville meets expectations in the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s annual report card scores.

The district’s overall score for 2019 was 64.2, down around four points from last year.

The score is calculated based on student achievement, student growth, closing achievement gaps, graduation track and post-secondary readiness.

Janesville’s score ranked eighth among the 10 largest districts in Wisconsin. In Rock County, Beloit was the only district to earn a lower overall score.

“The state’s school and district report cards provide us with a point in time reference about our students and schools,” Superintendent Steve Pophal said in a press release. “They are not the only way we determine success nor identify areas of improvement. Our district Promises provide a roadmap for our schools to develop continuous learning and growth opportunities for our students, guiding them forward to success after they graduate from high school.”

Roosevelt Elementary School earned the highest rating from the DPI as the district’s only five-star school this year that significantly exceeds expectations.

Lincoln Elementary School and Marshall Middle School scored the lowest this year.
