A homeless man dies after spending a night out in the cold.

Janesville Police say a 58-year-old man was found dead near a dumpster behind Old Town Mall in downtown Janesville Tuesday morning.

While Janesville Police aren’t releasing the man’s name, they did confirm it’s not Jeremiah Kemper, a man known to camp in Monterey Park.

Temperatures dropped into single digits between Monday night and Tuesday morning. National Weather Service records taken at the Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport showed the temperature at 10 degrees around midnight and 1 degree at 5:45 a.m. before creeping up to Tuesday’s high of 18 degrees.

There are between 350 and 400 homeless people in Rock and Walworth counties at any given time.
